It was the day that I had been waiting for all my life – Nurul Shukor finally conducted a makeup workshop in my hometown! It was a dream that came true for me. Mesmerized, I watched as he passionately worked his magic on the models’ faces, pausing every now and then to deliver inspirational talk to us. I really feel like Nurul is the elder sister that I never had.
I must say that I was starstruck. The moment he glided gracefully into the room, I had tears in my eyes. I have been admiring his work for decades; finally on 16th of October 2016, I got the chance to meet him face to face during a makeup workshop conducted in Grand Palace Hotel. I’m deeply grateful to the event organizers for that golden opportunity.
Other than Mirians, participants of the workshop included makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts from all over Sarawak (Kuching, Mukah, Sarikei, Bintulu) and, from Sabah. I made some new friends from Brunei too.
Nurul Shukor shared some important tips on makeup and reminded MUA to always be humble, regardless of their level of expertise. The workshop was fun and vibrant, with Nurul Shukor (fondly referred to as Kak Nurul by many) cracking jokes at unexpected moments (it caught me off guard) and encouraged participants to actively interact with him. We were shy in the beginning, but quickly warmed up to Kak Nurul.
For demonstration purposes, three lovely local models were recruited. They were Nunda, Brenda and Rachel. How lucky they were to receive the magical touch of Nurul Shukor! MUA Miki Martin also assisted Kak Nurul during the workshop.
I sincerely apologize for the blurry images. I was so excited that day, couldn’t sit still for a minute.
Kak Nurul showed participants three variations of eye makeup – smokey, socket and soft socket.
William Arthur Ward once said, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”
My deepest gratitude to Kak Nurul for willing to fly to our humble city and shared your wisdom with us. You inspired us with your humble demeanor, professionalism and dedication. If only I could, I’d love to be your apprentice.
Many thanks to the organizers of this workshop and the sporting participants that made me feel right at home. May God bless you all.
