Hit and run – cracked lens of Skyline R34

On the first Sunday of September 2017, my spouse reversed-parked his Skyline GT-T R34 at an allocated parking space in Marina ParkCity area. He was attending a gaming competition organized by a cybercafe nearby.

Early the next day as I walked around the porch I noticed cracks in one of the Skyline’s headlights. I took these two pictures with my phone camera – the colors may not match the real color of the car but it doesn’t matter, I just want to show you the crack.

Fyi, that yellow is not paint but vinyl wrap.

I recalled there wasn’t any negative reaction when he returned the night before. Could it be that he didn’t realize anything was amiss? I contemplated for awhile before I went upstairs to ask him (in the most non-alarming way possible) about the crack. He seemed perplexed and instantly jumped out of bed. I felt bad for having to break the bad news to him.

I don’t even want to describe how annoyed he was upon seeing the damage. No, ‘annoyed’ isn’t a suitable word to describe his reaction.

We suspected a vehicle parked opposite the Skyline reversed / exited the parking lot and accidentally knocked the corner of my spouse’s car. Most probably the culprit was driving a ‘taller’ vehicle (a 4WD vehicle / small truck maybe?) as the Skyline’s bonnet was not affected much.

Of course our parking lots here are not as large as the one shown in the image below. The image below is sekadar gambar hiasan / for illustration purposes only:-

There wasn’t any note left on the Skyline, obviously it is a hit & run situation. Oh well, we can’t expect everyone else to be as honest and righteous as we are, can we?

The actual place where his head light got its crack is shown below:

That picture was taken a few days after the incident; forget about finding clues or traces of the culprits. There weren’t any CCTV around. Oh well, c‘est la vie.

Anyhow, he ordered replacement parts from Japan and it costs RM 1,850. Since Malaysian Ringgit is weak at the moment, he has to fork out more RM than usual for all imported parts of the car.

p/s: I’m not saying I’m an angel, but I promise you – I’m the type of person that if I accidentally scratch or hit another person’s car (when the owner is nowhere to be found), I would insert a note with my number on it under the car’s wiper to inform him/her that I would be responsible. How about you? What would you do?

Stay safe and please drive carefully, peeps!

Try not to ‘kiss’ other people’s ride using your ride.
