Still Kicking

I owe you an apology for not creating much content lately. 2019 is coming to an end and it has been a liberating, wholesome journey.

On my plate currently is the final year project paper for the Psychology degree I’m taking from Open University Malaysia. From time to time I would visit the Psychiatric department in my local public hospital because my project supervisor is a doctor there. I would not go into details about this story due to privacy and confidentiality issues. All I could say is, I am truly grateful for the experience and opportunities given to me.

I took a break from blogging and started taking creative risks; and in the process, turning mistakes into priceless life lessons.

Perhaps one of the most delightful things that I learned this year was to craft the sugu tinggi – a traditional headgear for the Iban women. My teachers are Rosalind Ngali and Alvina Enap from Mitz Agency. They also taught me how to make selampai burie – a sash embellished with cowrie shells, and kain burie – a long skirt, also embellished with cowrie shells. These shells are mostly arranged according to our local native designs.

From a local community college, I learned how to weave my own water bottle container out of colorful packing strips, in a day. Also from the same venue, I learned to construct outdoor table and benches using ferro-cement.

I did not utilize much of my sewing machine this year, only made a brocade tote bag, a circle skirt, an asymmetrical skirt, a Melisandre-inspired dress, a few refashion and up-cycle projects, and some simple lounge wear. I get euphoria from creating lovely and functional crafts. For some time, I have been contemplating on creating a niche blog dedicated to my passion in arts and crafts as they have been a significant part of my life. I will announce it here once the blog is ready to go public. I’m so excited to share it with you.

As for music, my lessons in music theory and singing are progressing well, and I enjoy every moment of it. I use it as a sort of complementary therapy for my well-being. Though occasionally I like to sing in the shower, I have no desire to sing professionally.

During some weekends, I would tag along with the spouse and watched them practice drifting at a defunct bus station in Tudan, Miri. The venue is small but our home boys have no better option. There isn’t any available wide open space at the moment. All the drifters need is a big, empty space with proper asphalt paving, and of course, it would be nice to have basic amenities nearby.

There were certain months that I binge-watched Korean dramas, Chinese dramas and some Netflix series for costume and style inspirations. 2019 seems to be the year that all my favorite heroines (and a few heroes, and two dragons!) got slain. Don’t get me started on Game of Thrones! Or Avengers. Even the ending of Chinese drama “Goodbye My Princess” broke my heart. That’s it, I’m avoiding series until next year, except for Rick and Morty, of course. :D

It’s November and NaNoWriMo has begun 13 days ago. Alas, I have too much on my plate at the moment; rushing for deadlines (one short story writing competition and one novel submission to a publisher). I do not think I could complete the NaNoWriMo challenge this year, unless some miracle happens. ;-)

Life may not always be easy for an ordinary citizen like myself, nevertheless I am always grateful for the little things bestowed on me. I believe in karma and they can be exhausted, good or bad. I also believe that to a certain extent, we could manipulate fate and destiny. Whatever it is, I choose to stay on my path and try my best not to annoy anyone.

The weather here is hot and the streets are full of terror – plenty of emotional vampires roaming around and if we are not careful enough, we could become their victims. I no longer afraid to burn bridges with emotional vampires and slanderers who repeatedly causing me and my loved ones emotional distress and mental anguish. I see their true colors and I refuse to be their puppets anymore. Sorry not sorry, gotta lose you to love me. Have you come across selfish and greedy individuals who are always full of spite and petty jealousy towards others? If you could read their auras, what colors would they be?

To my fellow human beings that are going through tough times, I pray you be blessed with strength and resilience to overcome all hardships. For those who got sucked into negativity, it is time to rise above petty bickering and live in the light.
